Well hello everyone! We’ve had a fun little week so far at our house and I wanted to write about it before I started forgetting. Sunday was Delaney’s 2nd birthday!!
She was pretty excited! Like her pigtails? She didn’t haven’t any bows because I don’t have two of any one color. I’ll have to work on that because the pigtails were so cute, and they kept her hair out of her face all day.
Mommy and Daddy gave her a new cup (now known as the “birthday cup”) and a little Buzz and Woody. Here are some pictures of our time at home on her big day.

Mommy…19 weeks pregnant with baby sister.
Everyone says I don’t look pregnant, but I assure you, I am! I was this way with Delaney also. I barely gained any weight until halfway through the pregnancy, and did all of my growing at the end. I thought it would be different the second time, but both pregnancies have been pretty similar so far.
Back to the birthday…
We went to church and she get to see all of her friends on her birthday (her party is on Saturday, but it’s mostly family). Matt and I had staff meeting right after church, so Delaney got to go to a birthday party for some kids that we go to church with. She had a blast and they even sang happy birthday to her as well as the other birthday kids.
We had a really fun day and can’t wait until Saturday to celebrate some more!
Today, we had Delaney’s 2 year check up with Dr. Bubba. Delaney LOVES him. She has had so many shots, blood taken, strep tests, etc. (all the normal kid stuff) at his office, and she still loves to go.
She weighs 32 lb. (90th percentile) and is 2’5’’ (100th percentile). She’s really tall! I was always the tallest girl in my class growing up until middle school, so I think she’s going to be the same way. I guess I’m sorta tall…5’7’’.
He gave us some great advice on the three things I’ve been thinking about lately, 1) breaking the paci 2) transitioning to a big girl bed, and 3) potty training. Delaney is only allowed to have her paci in her room, so she only uses it at naptime and bedtime. He said it was totally up tous if we wanted to completely get rid of it, but if we want to, we should do it soon so that she has a few months to get over it before the new baby comes. He showed us his “paci jug.” It’s this huge jug filled with old pacis that kids have brought in. He offered for us to bring in all of our pacis and put them in the jug in exchange for suckers:) He said that would help her to separate from the paci, and not make Mommy the bad guy for taking it away. I think it’s a great idea, and Delaney seems to be on board, so I think we are going to go next week and turn them in!
As far as a big girl bed, my question was just how to keep her in the bed. Delaney has never attempted to climb out of her crib, but a bed is different and I just want to be prepared. He suggested putting a baby gate at her door, and after we tuck her in, she can’t come over the gate, and mommy and daddy can’t either. He said she might sleep on the floor, but eventually she will pick the bed:) He was confident that she would get the hang of it in one or two nights. We’ll see…
Dr. Bubba has an interesting view on potty training…not to do it. He says that bowel control is a natural process that kids go through, and they don’t need any prompting to do it. He says that just like kids learn to walk, they learn to potty. He recommends having a potty available and letting her use it whenever she asks, but not pushing it. I think I’m going to follow his advice. Anyone else have other tips?
Delaney loves to watch Rachel Ray cook in the mornings, so today when she got up from her nap, she watched Food Network with me. I think that was Paula Deen she was watching here.
Today was such a good day. There are so many days when I go to bed wondering if she is getting anything that I am trying to teach her, and today was a reminder that she definitely is. She was so obedient and well mannered all day. Tonight, I asked her what Deuteronomy 6:5 says (her first memory verse that I’ve been teaching her for about a month now), and she said it from memory. I could have cried! We’re moving on to Colossians 4:20 next:)
We had a little bit of obedience issues after bathtime tonight and we had to get Mr. Sad (wooden spoon). Right after our “learning time,” she looked at me and said, “Peese uhgive me mommy” (please forgive me mommy). I’ve been working on teaching her to seek forgiveness and reconciliation since we started disciplining, so this was a big accomplishment for her! I was so proud! After I forgave her, she said, “I love you mommy.” So sweet.
I think I’ll stop there for today. I’m just thankful for our week, and thankful for our little family. Weeks like this ease the anxiety that tried to creep in when I think about adding another one to the mix. But just like God is faithful to give us grace and patience everyday with Delaney, he will give us even more grace to teach and train and love two sweet little girls.
And no, we don’t have a name yet. I’m open for suggestions, but like I said, Matt is a crock pot when it comes to decisions so it will likely be a while:)
